Macy’s Closing 14 Stores in 2026, Including One in Minnesota

Rough news dropped over the weekend for a large retail chain throughout the United States.  Unfortunately, that news is impacting 14 stores, including one in Minnesota.

Macy's Just Announced Another 14 Stores Are Closing in the United States

Based on news published by Axios and USA Today, Macy's just revealed that 14 additional stores will be showing a "Closing Soon" sign.  The front doors being closed is due to Macy's continued effort to focus on stronger-performing locations as well as shrink its footprint.

Macy's originally announced that they would be investing in about 350 Macy's locations with their "Bold New Chapter" turnaround plan.  As that re-investing plan is still in play, sales momentum is also in motion for this retail giant.  Based on the latest report by Macy's, December had its strongest growth in over three years.

14 Macy's Stores Now Closing in 2026 - Here's What We Know About The Timeline

While exact closing dates haven't been revealed to the public, we do know that clearance sales will start in mid-January.  According to the Macy's website, those clearance sales will last about 10 weeks.

Most of the stores on the list above are expected to have their final day of sales in the first quarter of 2026.
