Major Road Closure, Transit Center Shift in Downtown Rochester, MN
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The latest round of planned construction in downtown Rochester will affect both motorists and transit riders Saturday.

The City of Rochester announced earlier this month a closure of a stretch of a major roadway in and out of the downtown. The closed stretch also houses a passenger hub for Rochester Public Transit.
Contractors will close 2nd St. Southwest in both directions between 3rd Ave. and 1st Ave. Southwest. The closure is to allow crews to complete a road patch.
City officials say the following detour will be in place during the closure: ·
- Eastbound traffic will be detoured northbound on 3 Avenue SW, eastbound on West Center Street, and southbound on Broadway Avenue S.
- Westbound traffic will be detoured northbound on Broadway Avenue S, westbound on West Center Street, and southbound on 4 Avenue SW.
Rochester Public Transit’s Downtown Transit Center will also be closed during the work. RPT says buses servicing the downtown area will temporarily shift about four blocks north of 2nd St. to Central Park.
A news release from Rochester Public Transit says, “ six weekend routes will be loading and unloading passengers on 2 Street NW between 1 Avenue NW and 2 Avenue NW. Routes 21, 22, 23 will stop on the south side of 2 Avenue NW. Routes 24, 25, and 26 will stop on the north side of Avenue NW.”
RPT says all bus routes will still follow their usual schedules. City officials say the 2nd St. road closure is expected to last one day.
