Duluth, MN (Learfield News Service) - A homeless man who started a fire that destroyed a Duluth synagogue has been sent to jail.

Thirty-six-year-old Matthew Amiot has been sentenced to 90 days in jail. He also has to serve 192 hours of community service.

Amiot pleaded guilty to two counts of negligent fire for starting the fire that destroyed the 117-year-old Adas Israel Synagogue. Amiot told prosecutors he started some clothes on fire outside in September to keep warm.
