St Paul (KROC AM News) - Authorities have released the name of the man who killed himself at the end of a police chase in central Minnesota over the weekend.

The Minnesota BCA is reporting the incident happened early Saturday in Eden Valley.

The man has been identified as 34-year-old Stephen Poissant of Brainerd. The BCA is reporting he died of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. ​

The officer with whom Poissant exchanged gunfire during the incident has also been identified. Officer Evan Borscheid discharged his firearm, resulting in a graze injury to Poissant’s knee. Borscheid was not injured and is on standard administrative leave.

The BCA says the incident began as an attempted traffic stop for speeding and a headlight violation.

The BCA investigation of the officer’s use of force is ongoing.
