Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Mayo Clinic and Medica have agreed to jointly develop health care products that will be offered to consumers throughout the U.S.

The plan calls for Mayo and Medica to partner with local health care systems to offer routine medical care to patients, who would also have access to the Mayo Clinic’s resources and expertise in cases when rare and complex care is required.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Medica on the development of products that will include access to Mayo Clinic for patients who would benefit from expert specialists and resources,” says Dennis Dahlen, chief financial officer, Mayo Clinic. “Our relationship with Medica and future product offerings support a collaborative model of care delivery and coordination of services with better outcomes for patients with complex and serious illness.”

Medica is headquartered in Minnesota and currently offers insurance products in Minnesota, all of its neighboring states, along with Kansas and Nebraska. It plans to expand into Missouri and Oklahoma at the beginning of next year. Medica also took ownership of the Mayo Clinic’s administrator business last year. Its customers, including the Mayo Clinic, will be transitioning to Medica’s technology platform and customer service model on January 1st.
