Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A seven-year fundraising campaign by the Mayo Clinic has been shut down a year early with the donation total 25-percent above the $3 billion goal. The YOU ARE...The Campaign for the Mayo Clinic was described as one of the largest fundraisers ever conducted by an academic medical center in the U.S. The Mayo Board of Trustees says the campaign, which was launched at the beginning of 2010, ended on December 31st after raising $3.76 billion. A news release says the donation total for the final year of the effort was $634 million.

“We are deeply grateful to the many generous individuals who stepped forward to make gifts of all sizes during the campaign,” says Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees Chairman Samuel Di Piazza Jr. “Philanthropy plays a vital role in advancing Mayo Clinic’s status as a global authority in healthcare. Mayo Clinic’s ability to solve the world’s most serious and complex medical challenges is made possible by a singular level of benefactor support.”

The Mayo Clinic says it received donations from 530,000 benefactors spread across all 50 states and 99 different countries. The individual gifts ranged from a penny to $100 million.
