Freeborn County Man Gets Probation In Mayo Clinic Threat Case

Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southern Minnesota man whose threats prompted a lockdown at a Mayo Clinic Health System hospital earlier this year has been sentenced.

37-year-old Sky LaMont Christiansen of Albert Lea was charged in Freeborn County Court with felony threats and gross misdemeanor harassment following the incident on February 12 of this year.

He was accused of threatening to ““shoot up the ER,” according to the criminal complaint.

Man Upset Over Treatment Plans for His Mother Sentenced for Threatening Call Placed to Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital

Christiansen was alleged to have made the threat after he became upset about plans to move his mother from the Emergency Room to the Mayo Clinic Health System hospital in Albert Lea, the charges say.

The court document says he made the threat during a phone call after he left the hospital. The threat prompted a lockdown of the entire facility.

Police made contact with Christianson and arrested him.

Threats Suspect Thought He was Speaking with Recording

While he was being transported to the Freeborn County Jail, the court document says Christiansen stated that he believed he was speaking to a recording rather than a person, the complaint says.

Court records indicate he was convicted of the harassment charge and the threats count was dropped. He was sentenced to one year of probation.
