Mayo Clinic to Rollback Most of Masking Requirement
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Mayo Clinic has announced plans to ease its universal masking requirement for most areas across its campuses.
The Rochester-based healthcare provider announced the update to the policy on Tuesday. A statement from Mayo says the change is prompted by “consistently low rates of hospitalizations, mortality and community transmission levels of COVID-19 observed at most Mayo Clinic locations.”
Starting Monday April 10, face masks will no longer be required at Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Health System campuses. Mask wearing will still be required in high-risk patient settings.
Officials say high-risk, immunocompromised patients will be notified to wear a mask while they’re at a Mayo Clinic facility. Mayo says they’ll support anyone who still decides to wear a mask once the requirement is rolled back.
