Eagan, MN (KROC-AM News) - Tragedy struck this morning outside a middle school in Eagan.

Police in the southern Twin Cities suburbs responded around 7:20 a.m. after a Dakota Hills Middle School student was struck by a car while riding a bike from his nearby home to the school. Officials say 13-year-old Patric Vitek was rushed to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries.

Eagan Police Chief Roger New says the driver of the car stopped and is cooperating in the investigation. He says the deadly incident occurred on a busy divided four-lane roadway that runs past the middle school, an elementary school, and Eagan High School.

Several hundred family members, friends, classmates, and others attended a candlelight vigil for Patric Friday evening at the Eagan Ice Arena
