Sure stores are posting 'back to school' specials and we are only a few days away from the Minnesota State Fair beginning, but it is STILL summer! And summer means baseball. Since the Twins are throwing in the towel, you might still need a championship baseball fix. We have just he thing. A youth Minnesota team from Bemidji has advanced to the Babe Ruth World Series.

The Bemidji Northern Heat, which is made up of 13-year-old boys, won the Midwest Plains Regional Championship in Chadron, Nebraska last weekend to earn a trip to play in the Babe Ruth World Series in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

The Babe Ruth World Series is basically the equivalent to the Little League World Series, which gets a lot more attention because of that national 4-lettered network covers it.

The Babe Ruth World Series features two divisions, and the top three teams from each division advance to the national championship bracket.

Bemidji is in the American Division with four other teams. Bemidji will play each team once beginning on Thursday in pool play. Here is their schedule:

  • Bemidji vs. Mountain Home, Arkansas – Thursday, 8 p.m.
  • Bemidji vs. Middle Atlantic – Saturday, 12 p.m.
  • Bemidji vs. Ohio Valley – Sunday, 8 p.m.
  • Bemidji vs. New England – Monday, 8 p.m.

You can follow all the action here. Good luck guys and bring back some hardware!
