Thanks to a new study, we have the states that have the best community connections, the most tight-knit communities.

States with the Best Community Connection

To rank all 50 states, SmileHub used "21 key metrics", including the number of community support charities per capita, the number of hate crime incidents per capita, and the volunteer rate.

Those 21 key metrics were lumped into three categories:

Community Well-Being and Togetherness Rank

Financial and Social Support Rank

Stability Detractors Rank

And guess who took the top spot as the best state for community connection? Minnesota!

Minnesota Named the Best State for Community Connection

Minnesota's best category was the Community Well-Being and Togetherness Rank. More specifically, we tied for third for volunteer rate and fourth for the most community and social service workers per capita.

I think this study even further proves my point in a story I wrote last week that Minnesota Nice is a real thing!

As for the rest of the country, the best states for community connection are all clustered around the Midwest and northeastern portions of the US.

Minnesota’s Longest Drive-Thru Light Show

The Kiwanis Holiday Light Display is free, but cash and non-perishable food donations are accepted. All money collected is given to area non-profits. Since opening in 2012 the event has raised nearly $800,000 for local charities.
