St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Minnesota now exceeds 80,000.

The state health department today reported 714 new cases were confirmed by the over 16,800 tests completed on Saturday. That pushed the cumulative total for the number of known COVID-19 infections in the state to 80,587. Only seven of the new cases were found in Olmsted County and the statewide positivity rate was about 4.3-percent.

The Minnesota Department of Health also reported six additional coronavirus related deaths on Sunday while the number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 was up slightly from Saturday. 284 people are currently hospitalized because of the viral illness and 143 of the patients are being treated in intensive care units.
