Minnesota Health Officials are Trying to Find Bat Woman
St Paul, MN (KROC AM News) - Minnesota health officials are trying to locate a woman who dropped off two dead bats at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center in St Paul last week.
They’re also trying to determine if anyone was exposed to the bats because tests confirmed they had rabies.
The woman brought the bats to the center for testing on Thursday but left before staff could get her contact information.
The Minnesota Department of Health says this incident serves as a reminder “that bats in Minnesota can carry rabies and that the public should take this risk seriously.”
The department says rabies is a fatal illness that is transmitted through bites from infected animals. Bats are of particular concern because their teeth are so tiny that a bite may not be felt or even leave a noticeable mark.
