Minnesota Hospital Employee Stabbed by Patient
Willmar, MN (KROC-AM News) - An employee of a Minnesota Hospital was seriously wounded in a knife attack by a patient on Monday.
The Willmar Police Department is reporting that officers responded to the CentraCare Emergency Department around 11:30 AM yesterday after dispatchers received an immediate request for assistance with a combative patient. When they arrived, they found a patient with an apparent mental health issue had pulled out a knife and stabbed a hospital employee.
A news release says the employee was able to get away from the patient but suffered serious injuries. Information about the individual's current medical condition is not available.
Willmar Police say the patient with the knife was subdued by hospital security and the emergency department staff. The 31-year-old Willmar man was given treatment at the hospital before he was transferred to the Kandiyohi County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of first and second-degree assault. His name has not been released.
