When deputies and emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found 63-year-old Raphael Kern had to been run over by a round baler and was suffering from severe injuries. The Verndale man was airlifted to a hospital in Fargo where he later died.

A news release says the deadly accident occurred while the two men were trying to fix the tractor. Officials say, when it broke down on Monday, the tractor was left in gear. When the victim and the other man got the engine running, it ran over Vern, who was between the tractor and the baler.
