Minnesota Officials ID 2 Teens Killed in Fiery Crash on Saturday
Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities have released the names of two teenagers who were killed in a fiery crash last weekend in south-central Minnesota.
The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office says the teenage victims were in one of two cars that collided head-on on a rural highway several miles south of Mankato just before 1 PM on Saturday. One of the cars caught fire and it's believed both of the victims were in that vehicle.
Officials say 18-year-old Jordis Lewis of Lake Crystal was driving the car west on Blue Earth County Road 90 when the vehicle collided with an eastbound car. Lewis and his passenger, 17-year-old Jackson Tester of Mankato, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A news release concerning the fatal incident identified the other driver as 56-year-old Dennis James Hanson of Madison Lake. He and his 13-year-old daughter, Kaleia Hanson, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, but Blue Earth County investigators say it appears the 18-year-old man may have been attempting to pass another westbound vehicle when the head-on collision occurred.
