It wasn’t just the fresh snow causing headaches. Gusty winds kicked that new snow around early Wednesday morning, creating blowing snow and pockets of very low visibility, especially on open stretches of highway, making the commute tricky for many drivers.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, between 6 am and 8 am Wednesday, troopers responded to 80 property-damage crashes and 1 injury crash, along with 7 vehicle spinouts and 89 reports of vehicles sliding off the road. The strong winds and slick highways also contributed to 11 jackknifed semis.
