Minnesota State Patrol Reports Another Storm Related Fatal Crash
Litchfield, MN (KROC-AM News) - A young woman from Litchfield was killed this morning when her Jeep collided with a semi-truck traveling in the opposite direction.
The deadly collision was reported around 7:30 AM on Highway 12 about 5 miles west of Litchfield.
The State Patrol identified the victim as 26-year-old Miranda Castro. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck, 28-year-old Kadar Ahmed Ismail of Willmar, was not injured. The State Patrol indicated the highway was covered by snow and ice when the fatal collision occurred. The National Weather Service says nearly 9-inches of snow was reported at Litchfield about an hour after the crash was reported.
The other storm-related fatality occurred in Burnsville Sunday afternoon. The State Patrol reported that 51-year-old Elizabeth Evans of Lakeville was driving an SUV that left a snow and ice covered I-35 and smashed into a tree.

Between 12 AM Sunday and 11:30 this morning, the State Patrol has responded to 439 traffic crashes statewide. In addition to the two fatalities, there were 22 injury crashes, including one serious injury incident.
The State Patrol also reported 385 vehicles spinning out or going off the road and 14 jackknifed semi trucks.
