Some call it swearing, some call it cursing, or cussing—whatever you call it, you do it and probably more often than you realize. You stub your toe – curse word. Step outside on a cold January morning – curse word(s). Your boss schedules a meeting on a Friday afternoon – curse word.

A Business Insider article from 2021 revealed that Americans are putting a lot of quarters in the cuss jar. Their report found the average American says 80 to 90 curse words every day. However, according to a new study, Minnesota is home to the least amount of "swear bears."

Swearing Is Good For You

Before you get all judgy, you should know that there are some actual benefits to throwing out a good swear word.

Healthline says cursing can help with pain tolerance, help us deal with situations where we feel powerless, and even strengthen relationships.

Wordtips recently ran a study to figure out the most popular swear words in each state and found that Maryland has the most potty mouths in the country and Minnesotans use profanity less than people in any other state.

They looked at tweets from all 50 states, tracking common swear words and their variations. The F-word was the top swear word in the country, but it wasn't the most common here in Minnesota.
