Isn't Cargill The Biggest Company in Minnesota?

Yes, Cargill is a large company with its headquarters in Wayzata.  In 2024, it reported $160 billion in revenue for the year, making it the biggest private company in the United States.  However, it doesn't show up on the Fortune 500 list because it is a private company.  The company is mostly owned by family members.

How Many Small Businesses Are Located In Minnesota?

While a lot of money is being made by the top companies above in Minnesota, 99.5% of businesses in Minnesota are actually comprised of small businesses.  Digging in a bit deeper with that number - about 526,350 businesses are given that "small" title in the North Star state.

How Many People Do Small Businesses Employ in Minnesota?

While the larger companies have sprawling campuses in several locations throughout Minnesota, the small businesses are an integral part of the workforce.  According to the Office of Advocacy, small businesses in Minnesota employ 46.9% of all who are employed in the state.
