Minnesota’s Population Growth is Above Average
Undated (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota’s population growth outpaced the national average during the past year, but it was nowhere near the fastest growing in the nation.
The latest population estimates from the US Census put the number of people living in Minnesota as of July 1st at 5,576,606. That is about 51,500 above the population estimate from July 1, 2016, for a growth rate of 9/10ths of a percent.
The population of the entire U.S. grew by just over 7/10ths of a percent during the same period to 325.7 million people. Idaho had the fast growth rate at 2.2-percent, followed by Nevada at 2-percent, and Utah at 1.9-percent. Of the 8 states that lost population last year, Illinois led the pack with a reduction of 38,000 people, while Wyoming had the largest percentage drop at 1-percent.
Since the last census was conducted in 2010, Minnesota has added about 272,000 people for a population growth rate of around 5-percent.
