The trickle down effect has now caused the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks to cut its athletic budget by $1.3 million dollars, forcing the elimination of three more sports.

Women's hockey and men's and women's swimming and diving will cease to exist at the school. UND's women's hockey program had a good run a few years back, reaching the NCAA quarterfinals two years in a row when the team featured twin sisters and U.S. Olympians Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux.

Now, there will be one less team in the WCHA.

The school had to cut baseball and men's golf two years ago.  The athletic department now is down to 18 programs.
