Park and Forestry Division Head Mike Nigbur says it’s possible the southern portion of the bicycle path that will circle the lake will be completed this year.  He also says if funds are available, development of the beach area and adjacent parking lot may begin next year.   They will be located on the southeast side of the lake. Nigbur says mining of the lake slowed during the Great Recession and is expected to continue through 2023.

The department is also scheduled to hear from a group that is seeking support for a proposal dealing with pickleball.  The group is requesting the board consider additional court space at Cooke and possibly other parks.   The group says pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in North America.  It is a racket sport that uses a wiffle-like ball and is similar to tennis.  It involves two or four players.
