Minnesota Land Sale With Lakeshore, Rural Properties Is Now Live
Owning land is always a good idea and if you're in the market to buy some property, you'll soon have the chance to get perhaps exactly what you're looking for with the Minnesota annual public land sale, hosted by the DNR.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says land sales, which are held through a public auction following state statutes, help it refine its land holdings. The next sale will also help the DNR meet its fiduciary responsibility to K-12 public education.
The current online public land auction is being held in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Administration at MNBid.mn.gov, Minnesota’s Surplus Services online auction website.
Minnesota DNR Announces Details For Next Annual Public Land Sale
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources public land sale is now live and you can bid on all properties through Thursday, November 21.
There are a total of 6 state lands for sale, which can be found in the following Minnesota counties:
- Aitkin (1 Property)
- Cook (1 Property)
- Itasca (3 Properties)
- St. Louis (1 Property)
The DNR says these rural and lakeshore properties may appeal to adjacent landowners or offer recreational opportunities such as space for a small cabin or camping.
It's important to note that anyone interested in bidding on a property must first register for an account at MNBid.mn.gov.

Lastly, the DNR says that to ensure Minnesota has the best public land offerings, it sells land that no longer meets the state’s conservation, recreation, or economic needs.
All properties now for sale are trust lands, granted to the state by the federal government to generate a continual source of income for public education. The 6 parcels of school trust land for sale are those that may be difficult for the DNR to manage and provide limited opportunities to generate income. Revenue from the one-time sale of these lands will be allocated to the Permanent School Fund to support K-12 public education across Minnesota.
