MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A former Eden Prairie police detective whom authorities say falsified a search warrant in a drug case will not face criminal charges.

McLeod County Attorney Michael Junge says Friday that Travis Serafin won't face criminal punishment for intentionally giving false testimony.

Reports say Junge called the result of his investigation distasteful but says in order to charge Serafin, prosecutors would have to obtain information about his activities from a source other than Serafin himself.

Serafin has been compelled to give a sworn statement about what he did as part of an internal disciplinary action - but in criminal cases, defendants can't be compelled to provide testimony against themselves.

Serafin's actions led prosecutors in Hennepin County to dismiss charges against an admitted drug dealer and open investigations into other cases Serafin handled.

Serafin hasn't publicly commented.
