End Date Set for North Broadway Ave. Detour in Rochester

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The end is in sight for a major Rochester detour that has been in place for more than a month.

The road closure was supposed to last for about four weeks, but the road’s reopening was delayed due to unplanned extra utility work. 

A reopening date for a closed intersection in the work area has also been set.

Reopening Date Set for North Broadway Ave. in Rochester

The City of Rochester indicates that North Broadway Ave. between 13th St. Northwest and 16th St. Northeast is scheduled to reopen on Friday, May 9. 

Traffic had been detoured via 13th St. Northwest to West River Rd. then reconnected with North Broadway at Elton Hills Dr. since late March. 

City officials say 14th St. Northeast at North Broadway, which also closed in late March, is set to reopen by early next week once the concrete strengthens.

The road closure and detour are part of Phase II of a project to reconstruct North Broadway Ave. from the Silver Lake Bridge to the Elton Hills Dr. intersection. 

Drivers could still experience construction-related delays, as North Broadway will be down to a single lane in each direction in the work zone. 

The project calls for eliminating the right-turn ramp from northbound Broadway to 14th St. Northeast and the addition of a stoplight at the North Broadway/16th St. intersection. 

The plans also include the addition of multi-use paths along the east and west sides of North Broadway. Work is scheduled to be completed this fall, according to the construction project’s website.
