ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — A jury has found a St. Cloud man not guilty of first-degree murder in the fatal March shooting of a 20-year-old man outside a Sartell strip mall.

Twenty-three-year-old Demetreus Anthony McGinnis was convicted Tuesday night of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and witness tampering in the death of Maurice Galvin Jr.

McGinnis was found not guilty of a second count of second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The St. Cloud Times reports the jury of 10 men and two women began deliberating at about 1 p.m.

According to a criminal complaint, McGinnis and Galvin were behind a Sprint store and got into a struggle during which a gun went off.

McGinnis' attorney claims his client acted in self-defense after Galvin threatened him with a gun.

The trial began Thursday.
