Nurses to Picket in Support of Mayo Clinic Workers in Albert Lea
Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - The union workers planning to stage a one-day strike at the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Albert Lea will be receiving moral support from members of the Minnesota Nurses Association.
SEIU Healthcare Minnesota yesterday announced it was filing an intent to strike notice for a one-day work stoppage at the Albert Lea facility on December 19th to express their displeasure with the union’s ongoing contract talks on behalf of the nearly 80 certified nursing assistants and other support staff it represents. The Minnesota Nurses Association today filed a 10-day notice of intent to picket the Mayo Clinic hospital in Albert Lea on December 19th, which is the same day the SEIU members plan to strike.
The union says Mayo has intimated it will replace the striking employees with temporary workers, and their hiring could keep the union workers away from their jobs for up to a week. If that occurs, the union nurses say they plan to picket at the site until all of the staff represented by SEIU are allowed to return to their jobs.
