First responders climbed and entered the burning building and relayed the children to safety. The kids were brought to a Cannon Falls hospital before being airlifted to a larger trauma center, reportedly in the Twin Cities, for further treatment.

A news release issued by the Cannon Falls Police Department Thursday indicates the children have been stabilized and placed into medically induced comas while being treated at a burn unit. Their mother and father are thankful for the prayers and well-wishes the family has received.

The cause of the apartment fire has not yet been determined. The remaining residents of the 12-unit building have been displaced by the fire and representatives of the American Red Cross were called to help them find temporary housing.
