Byron, MN (KROC AM News)  - An Olmsted County deputy will miss work for an unknown amount of time after being injured in a scuffle with a Rochester teenager.

The incident began as a suspicious vehicle call in Byron Monday afternoon.

A homeowner reported the vehicle and it was determined it had been stolen from Kasson. A deputy checked the homeowner’s surveillance video and was able to confirm 5 juveniles had been in the vehicle. They were found at a nearby park and the Rochester teenager tried to run away.

He was caught by the deputy and as they fell to the ground, the officer landed on his shoulder and suffered a serious injury. The teenager also tried grabbing the gun of another deputy. After he was placed in a squad car, he spit in the face of one of the deputies.

Also arrested was a 17-year-old from Mantorville. He was suspected of driving the stolen car.
