Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester firefighters had to overcome dangerously cold wind chills and snowdrifts to battle a costly garage fire at a rural residence near Chester Woods Park.

A news release says the fire was reported around 9:45 AM in a detached two stall garage at 7042 30th Street Southeast. The first fire crews to arrive at the scene found a dark, thick plume of smoke and the structure engulfed in flames.

The Fire Department says one person was transported to the hospital by ambulance to be assessed for smoke inhalation. There was significant damage to the garage and the contents, along with some nearby mature trees. The loss was estimated at around $105,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
