
Sheriff: Oronoco Man, Woman Killed in Duluth-Area Crash
Cloquet, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man and woman from Oronoco were killed Friday in a traffic crash near Duluth.
According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was reported shortly after 9 a.m. at a rural intersection approximately four miles northeast of Cloquet and eight miles west of Duluth. A news release indicates a pickup truck and a passenger car collided.
Life-Saving Measures Were Unsuccessful
The Sheriff’s Office says first responders located a total of four injured individuals at the crash site and, despite life-saving measures, the two occupants of the passenger vehicle died at the scene. The victims were identified as 57-year-old Anthony Drake and 57-year-old Tammy Drake.

Infant Injured in the Crash
The two people in the pickup truck, a 32-year-old man and an infant, were transported to a hospital in Cloquet for treatment. Information about the extent of their injuries was not immediately available. Their names have not been released, but the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says they lived near the scene of the crash.
Investigators Do Not Believe Impairment Was Involved
The Minnesota State Patrol assisted the Sheriff’s Office with a reconstruction investigation of the deadly incident. The news release says investigators do not believe alcohol or substance impairment was a contributing factor.
