Overdue Fisherman’s Body Pulled from Minnesota Lake
Walker, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities in northern Minnesota say they have recovered the body of an overdue fisherman from Leech Lake.
A news release issued Wednesday by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report regarding a fisherman who had not returned to his Walker-area home shortly before 6 p.m. Monday. Authorities began an immediate land, water and aerial search after receiving the call.
Officials say search teams found the 71-year-old man’s boat on one of the lake’s bays less than three hours after responding to the call. Teams began searching the area of the boat discovery but did not find the man Monday evening.
The search resumed Tuesday morning and continued until about 6:30 p.m. when teams recovered the fisherman’s body. The man’s name has not been released.
His body was found in the same area as the boat he was in. The man’s body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
