Parking Restrictions Begin as Rochester Digs Out from Major Winter Storm

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester has started to dig out from the area's first major snow storm of the season.

A winter that began with record warm temperatures and without measurable snow quickly transformed to more normal conditions thanks to a pair of snow storms that hit the area this week. 

The snowfall is now predicted to be followed by a blast of arctic air. In response to the snow the City of Rochester has enacted parking restrictions to facilitate snow removal. 

Rochester residents will see signing indicating parking is prohibited from midnight until 8 a.m. along the following downtown streets: 

• 3 Ave West from 3 St NW to 6 St SW (one way northbound)
• 4 Ave West from 3 St NW to 2 St SW (one way southbound)
• 4 Ave West from 4 St SW to 5 St SW (one way southbound)
• 4 St South from 2 Ave SE to 6 Ave SW
• 1 Ave West from 5 St NW south to 2 St NW
• 1 Ave West from Center Street to End of Street by “YMCA”
• 2 Ave SW from Center Street to the roundabout
• 7 St SW from 5 Ave SW to 6 St SW
• 5 St SW from 1 Ave SW to 4 Ave SW
• 6 St SW from 1 Ave SW to 2 Ave SW
• Center St from 7 Ave West to 3 Ave West
• 1 St NE from Broadway to dead end east of Civic Center Dr NE
• 2 St South from Broadway to Civic Center Dr
• 1 St SW from 11 Ave NW to the end of the street west of 14 Ave SW
• 2 St SW from 3 Ave SW to 4 Ave SW
• 2 St SW from 12 Ave SW to 13 Ave SW
• 3 St SW from 4 Ave SW to 6 Ave SW

The restrictions took effect Saturday morning. City crews spent the early morning hours removing snow from the downtown area early Saturday morning. 

The downtown snow removal effort and parking restrictions are set to continue from midnight to 8 a.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Vehicles in violation of the parking restrictions will be ticketed or towed, a news release from the city says. 

Owners of vehicles towed for violating the restrictions are asked to contact the Law Enforcement Center.
