Phil Hughes Hurt in Twins Loss to White Sox

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Hector Noesi allowed three hits over 7 2-3 innings and Adam Eaton had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night.

Noesi (5-7) gave up two runs, struck out three and walked one in an impressive performance. Alexei Ramirez added two hits and an RBI for Chicago and Jake Petricka went one inning to pick up his fifth save in six chances.

Phil Hughes (10-7) gave up two runs and four hits and struck out four for the Twins. But he left the game with a right shin contusion in the fourth inning when he was hit by a chopper off the bat of Adam Dunn. Hughes is listed as day-to-day.

Marlins take 3 of 4 from Braves...Royals win a marathon...Scherzer wins 12th

UNDATED (AP) — The Miami Marlins finished taking three of four in Atlanta by rallying with a run in the ninth off Braves closer Craig Kimbrel in a 3-2 victory. The loss drops the Braves a game and a-half back of idle Washington in the NL East race.

It's just the second in 10 series that Miami has won at Turner Field. Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in the go-ahead run. Salty went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Kimbrel fell to 0-2.

Marlins closer Steve Cishek earned his 24th save in 27 chances, retiring Freddie Freeman, Justin Upton and Jason Heyward on fly balls in the ninth.

In action around the majors:

— Nori Aoki singled home Lorenzo Cain in the 14th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 marathon win over Cleveland. Indians starter Corey Kluber had a perfect game bid broken up with a one-out single in the seventh inning by Omar Infante

— AL East-leading Baltimore blanked Seattle 4-0. Wei-Yin Chen and Darren O'Day combined on the five-hit shutout. Chen improved to 11-3 after winning his fourth straight start. Delmon Young hit a three-run homer.

— AL Central-leading Detroit held off the L.A. Angels 6-4. Max Scherzer improved to 12-3. He struck out 11 in seven innings. Nick Castellanos hit a two-run double in the sixth for the Tigers. That's his 24th double, which leads all rookies.

— Brandon Moss hit a grand slam and the Oakland Athletics gave Jeff Samardzija got more run support than he has had all season in a 13-1 rout of the Houston Astros. Jed Lowrie had three hits and drove in a run for the A's, who have the best record in baseball at 63-38.

— Marcus Stroman took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as Toronto shutout the Red Sox 8-0. Shane Victorino's bloop single to lead off the seventh broke up the no-hit bid and was the only hit for Boston. Juan Francisco had the big day at the plate with four runs batted in. Stroman struck out seven and walked two in seven innings of work. The rookie right-hander improved to 5-1 with a 1.54 ERA in seven home starts.

— Brandon McCarthy delivered another strong pitching performance in the Yankees 4-2 win over Texas. He gave up a run on four hits in six solid innings to improve to 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA since being acquired from Arizona earlier this month. Fellow newcomer Chase Headley provided an RBI single in New York's sixth win in seven games.

— Ryan Braun, Jonathan Lucroy and Khalid Davis all homered in Milwaukee's 9-1 rout of the New York Mets. Matt Garza allowed two hits over eight innings to even his mark at 7-7. The Brewers have won four straight.

— The light-hitting San Diego Padres rapped out 14 hits in their 13-3 rout of the Chicago Cubs. Rene Rivera had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs.

— Chase Utley's tie-breaking single in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Philadelphia edge San Francisco 2-1. The win helped the Phillies avoid a four-game sweep at home. The NL West-leading Giants completed a 5-2 road trip.
