Public Invited to Weigh in on Rochester's Proposed 2023 Budget

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester residents will have the chance to share their feedback on the city’s proposed 2023 budget.

As part of the budget and tax levy adoption process, the city will hold a public hearing about next year’s budget on Monday, Dec. 5. The hearing is part of the regular city council meeting that begins at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall in downtown Rochester.

Rochester City Council members unanimously approved to cap the tax levy increase at 6.85% in September. The capped levy increase would be an uptick of about $4.3 million from this year’s spending blueprint.

The preliminary budget for next year is currently around $588 million. That figure includes $202 million in capital expenditures and the $227 million budget for Rochester Public Utilities. The proposed general fund budget for next year is about $105.5 million.

The 20230 budget proposal does not call for increases to parking ramp or transit fees. The Rochester Public Utilities Board approved an operating budget that would include an increase to general electric rates by 2.5% and general water rates by 5% for 2023.
