Rochester Adds Just 350 Jobs Over Past Year
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The latest jobs data for Minnesota continues to show sluggish job growth in the Rochester area, while the state as a whole is outpacing the national job growth rate.
Rochester area adds about 350 jobs
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is reporting that overall employment in the Rochester area has increased by only about 350 jobs during the past year. That puts the annualized job growth rate for July at only 0.3%.
Mankato leads Minnesota metro job growth
The Mankato area had the strongest job growth rate among Minnesota's large metropolitan areas at 4.5%, with a gain of more than 2,500 jobs from July of last year. The Twin Cities area economy added more than 27,000 jobs year over year, for a job growth rate of 1.4%.
Duluth, St. Cloud report job losses
Both Duluth and St. Cloud reported slight year-over-year job losses. Employment in the St. Cloud area was down by just over 535 jobs, for a negative job growth rate of 0.5%, while employment in Duluth was down 100 positions when compared to July of last year.
Minnesota outpaces national job growth
The Minnesota DEED report indicates the state's job growth rate in July was 1.5%, while the national rate was only 0.2%. The data shows Minnesota has gained more than 44,000 jobs over the past year.
Unemployment rate falls to 4.3%
On a seasonally adjusted basis, Minnesota added approximately 1,900 jobs last month, while the size of the labor force fell by just over 4,000 workers. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July was down a tenth of a percentage point from June, at 4.3%. A year ago, the statewide jobless rate was 3.8%.
