It's not often that a city attorney has an opportunity to go before the Minnesota Supreme Court, but Rochester City Attorney Terry Atkins' appearance before the justices on Friday will be extra special.

Adkins' youngest son earlier decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a lawyer. On Friday, Jay Adkins will stand before the Minnesota Supreme Court and take the Oath of Admission to the State Bar Association. The younger Atkins graduated from the St. Thomas University Law school in May and later passed the Bar exam, which was his last hurdle to clear before officially becoming an attorney at law.

As part of the process in Minnesota, if the person being admitted to the State Bar Association has a close relative who is already an attorney, that person is given the opportunity to stand before the Supreme Court and make the motion to have their family member admitted. So, in what will surely be a proud father-son moment, the Rochester City Attorney will be making the motion for his son's admission on Halloween.
