Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council Monday night approved a staff recommendation to increase the city’s contribution to the Rec Center/Senior Center project due to unexpected cost overruns.

The $1.7 million contribution increases the city’s financial share of the project to $24 million.

The council also approved a request from Mayor Ardell Brede to form a task force that will study possible future uses of the Chateau Theater building.

The city will soon take ownership of the historic building and it is expected to become a key part of the DMC’s proposed Heart of the City district.  A member of the City Council will join Brede on the task force that is expected to meet for no longer than 2 years.
