Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Council is being asked to approve another significant modification to the city’s parking ordinance.

The change recommended by city staff would increase the maximum time allowed for on-street parking from 12 to 24 hours. The recommendation indicates the change would reduce the hassle for residents who currently need to move their parked vehicles twice every day and eliminate a point of confusion concerning Rochester’s new seasonal even-odd parking restriction for snow removal.

Since that ordinance was enacted last fall, city staff has been recommending that people arriving home after 3 PM on any given day to “park for the next” day to comply with the even-odd side restriction. Staff notes the existing 12-hour limit conflicts with that message and the city continues to receive calls and emails from citizens seeking clarification on how they can comply with the ordinance without having to go out in the middle of the night to move their vehicle.
