Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man was transported to St. Mary's hospital for an evaluation after he was seen jumping from a bridge into the Zumbro River.

A news release from the Rochester Fire Department says the incident was reported around 1:30 PM Tuesday at the East Center Street bridge where an off-duty firefighter witnessed the man jumping. The firefighter reported the jumper was conscious in waist-deep water before he scaled down the side of the riverbank and coaxed the individual to the river shore.

Rochester firefighters arrived moments later and used a ladder to get onto the river and reach the man. He was able to walk but was unable to make it up the steep embankment or climb the ladder. A boat was then used to transport the man to the boat landing behind the former Silver Lake Fire Station, where he was evaluated by a Mayo Clinic Ambulance crew and transported.

The man's name has not been released.
