Rochester Included in Wind Advisory Until 10 PM
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It is going to be a very windy afternoon across southeastern Minnesota.
The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for southern, central, and Northwestern Minnesota. The advisory for southeastern Minnesota went into effect at 1 PM and continues until 10 PM. The entire state of Iowa and a section of southern Wisconsin are also under wind advisories today.
Forecasters are predicting northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to 50 mph. The National Weather Service expects the highest winds to be recorded in areas west of the Mississippi River.
In addition to the howling winds, there is a possibility of "intense bursts of snow" during the afternoon and early evening. In areas experiencing snow and high winds, motorists can expect their visibility to be significantly hampered. The wind gusts will likely blow around unsecured objects and could be strong enough to knock down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages.
It is expected to remain windy on Saturday but gusts are only expected to reach around 30 mph. It should also be sunny on Saturday but cool with a high only in the low to mid-30s.
