Rochester Kmart Will Soon Be Closing – For Good
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - When was the last time you shopped at the Rochester Kmart store? For some, it may have been the last time.
After surviving announced Kmart store closings around the country in recent years, luck has run out for the Rochester site.
The company -which also owns Sears- announced more Sears and Kmart closings Friday as it continues to deal with its recent bankruptcy filing.
The Rochester store has been scheduled to close in late March. Also on the new list is the Sears store at the Mall of America, the only remaining full-service Sears outlet in Minnesota.
Rochester’s Sears store at Apache Mall was replaced by Scheels in 2014. It had relocated from Crossroads Shopping Center to Apache Mall. The Rochester Kmart also had its origins at Crossroads Shopping Center where it operated as a Kresge store. The store later became a Kmart and relocated to its current site near Olmsted Medical Center. A second Kmart opened and closed in the 1980s near the 37th St Hy-Vee store.
