Rochester Man Arrested After Home Invasion and Traffic Crash
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police are reporting the arrest of a man in connection with a violent home invasion yesterday afternoon.
Captain Casey Moilanen says the man is accused of forcing his way into a residence in the 900 block of 4th Street Southeast and threatening a person with a knife. Witnesses reported he left and drove away after one of the people in the residence handed over approximately $100. Police responded to the residence shortly before 1:30 PM.
Moilanen sys the robbery suspect was later spotted driving on East Center Street by an Olmsted County Deputy, who followed the vehicle until he crashed into another vehicle and then fled on foot. The deputy reported that the motorist was speeding and driving erratically just before the crash.
23-year-old Abdulahi Abukar was later apprehended in the 400 block of 10th Avenue Southwest. Captain Moilanen says it appeared that he was intoxicated and he was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for an evaluation before he was booked into the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.
He is being held on suspicion of first-degree aggravated robbery, second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, fleeing police, DWI, and several other traffic violations.
