Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - An investigation launched by a cyber tip has led to a child pornography charge against a 21-year-old Rochester man.

Charged With Possession of Child Pornography

Court records indicate that Luis Fernando Escalante was released Thursday without bail following his arraignment in Olmsted County court on a single count of possessing child pornography.

Cyber Tip From Dropbox

The criminal complaint says Rochester police received a cyber tip on June 10 concerning two videos of suspected child sexual abuse material that were uploaded to Dropbox in May. The user name on the account was "Luis Escalante."

Search Warrant Executed at Northwest Rochester Residence

Further investigation by Rochester police verified the ownership of the Dropbox account and linked it to a northwest Rochester residence, where a search warrant was executed earlier this week. The criminal complaint says Escalante initially denied having a Dropbox account and then stated that he had not used it since 2021.

Police Reported Finding Suspected Child Sexual Abuse Material

According to the court document, a detective searched Escalante's phone and found that Dropbox was installed and the Gmail address associated with a cyber tip was logged into the Dropbox account. A review of the account led to the discovery of several images and videos of suspected child sexual abuse material, including one that depicts a 3-6-year-old child being sexually assaulted by an adult male.
