Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man with a long history of vehicle thefts was sentenced this afternoon for a conviction connected to a string of vehicle thefts in Rochester two years ago..

50-year-old Garrick Sneed entered into a plea agreement with Olmsted County prosecutors earlier in the year to settle four cases filed against him in 2022. He was accused of stealing four vehicles from a parking lot near the Riverview Suites Apartments along the Civic Center Drive and attempting to steal a truck outside an apartment building along Marion Road Southeast.

In that case, a Rochester police officer responded to the Marion Road property and found the truck connected to an SUV by a yellow tow strap. The criminal complaint says Sneed was at the scene and claimed he was acting on behalf of a person who worked for a local towing company, but police soon learned the other man had stopped working for the towing company the previous year.

Under the terms of his plea agreement, Sneed entered a guilty plea to a felony vehicle theft charge and admitted to a misdemeanor theft charge involving the theft of power tools from a Rochester business. The three felony charges connected to the vehicle thefts at the Riverview Suites Apartments were dismissed.

Sneed was sentenced today to 23 months in prison. He is being allowed to serve the time concurrently with a 30 month prison term he was given in May of this year for a 2009 vehicle theft in Hennepin County. With credit for time already spent in jail and good behavior, Sneed will be eligible for release next March.

Court records show, prior to his latest convictions, he already had more than two dozen theft-related convictions dating back to 1992.
