Rochester Man Gets Jail Sentence For 1.6 Pound Fentanyl Bust

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been sentenced to a year in jail in a case involving thousands of fentanyl pills.

One Year Jail Sentence

Twenty-six-year-old Seila Abdurahman Ibrahim was also given a stayed 78-month prison sentence and was ordered to serve five years on probation. He entered into a plea agreement several months ago and admitted to a charge of first-degree drug possession in exchange for the dismissal of two counts of first-degree drug sales and another first-degree drug possession charge.

Rochester Police Narcotics Trafficking Investigation Led to Traffic Stop

According to court records, Ibrahim and another Rochester man, 25-year-old Omar Yasin Mohamed, were arrested two years ago as a result of a narcotics trafficking investigation conducted by Rochester police. The criminal complaints against the two men indicate they had been under surveillance and were observed making multiple suspected drug trafficking trips to the Twin Cities before they were pulled over on Highway 52 just north of Rochester.

More Than 7000 Fentanyl Pills

The charges state that a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a package of fentanyl weighing more than 1.6 pounds and containing more than 7,000 fentanyl pills. Another package found in the vehicle contained a brick of cocaine weighing more than half a pound.

Second Defendant Previously Sentenced

Mohamed earlier admitted to a first-degree drug sales charge in the case and was sentenced to six months in jail. He was also given a stayed five-year prison sentence that could be imposed if he does not successfully complete probation.
