Rochester Man Gets Prison for Witness Bribery Scheme
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man who recently admitted to a felony bribery charge in a violent Rochester criminal case has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Bribery Conviction Tied to Kidnapping, Robbery, Assault Case
Olmsted County court records indicate 27-year-old Amnabear Omot Nyigwo was given credit for the 120 days he has already spent in jail. The Rochester man's conviction was linked to a kidnapping, robbery, and assault reported in early February.
In that case, 26-year-old Chrestopher Komakic Lon Ogak is charged with aiding and abetting kidnapping, first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, and threats of violence. He remains jailed on $1 million bail.
Victim Reported Being Beaten and Robbed
Ogak is accused of abducting a man and taking him to his northwest Rochester home, where the victim reported that he was beaten by a group of people. The criminal complaint says the victim described being pistol-whipped multiple times and robbed of $1,500.
Offered Drugs and Money to Change His Story
According to the charges, Rochester police found the man hospitalized with facial injuries, and he told them that he had acted as a "middleman" in drug transactions for Ogak. It is alleged that Ogak had given him $1,500 to purchase oxycodone, but the man was unable to obtain the drugs and was abducted by Ogak after he arranged to meet him at a Rochester convenience store to return the money.
The criminal complaint against Nyigwo alleges that Ogak contacted him and a number of other associates while he was in jail and directed them to speak with the victim in the kidnapping and assault case. Investigators obtained a series of text messages involving Nyigwo, who was accused of offering the victim drugs and money to recant his allegations against Ogak. The court document alleges that Nyigwo instructed the victim to say "that he was off drugs and doesn't remember what he said and made a mistake."
