Rochester Memorial Day Event Returns After Three Year Hiatus
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It’s back. The annual Memorial Day program in Rochester will be held this year for the first time since 2018.
The Rochester Veterans Memorial Organization has announced the event will take place at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial.
The program will start at 10:00 AM with music from the Mayo Clinic Plummer Carillon.
Also, at 10:00 AM, there will be a procession starting from the tennis courts at Soldiers Field and proceeding to the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial. At 10:30 AM, the Memorial Day Program at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial will start.
The group says at least 28 veteran organizations, law enforcement agencies, and other community groups will take part in the ceremony.
The organization also shares this information:
- On Memorial Day the flag should be displayed at half-staff from dawn until noon only, and then raised to the top of the staff.
- Also, at 12 o’clock noon, the flag should go to full staff, and bells should be tolled for five minutes during which time every comrade shall remain standing with uncovered head in tribute to their departed comrades.
At 12 o’clock noon, the veteran organizations will be honoring the dead whose remains are buried at sea at the Center Street Bridge by the Civic Center.
After the services at the Center Street Bridge, there will be services at the local cemeteries as listed below.
