Rochester Police Respond To Gun Incident In NW Neighborhood
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A gun-related incident led to a large police officer presence in a northwest Rochester neighborhood on Tuesday.
Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says several officers were sent to the 1900 block of 18 ½ St NW around 7:00 PM to check a report of a man who fired a shotgun out the rear door of his residence.
After several neighbors reported hearing a shot, officers set up a perimeter around the man’s home and made contact with him. The man cooperated and officers found a shotgun and rifle in his home. He denied firing the guns and it was determined they had not been recently fired.
Officers also found a pellet gun and suspected the man had taken that weapon when he went outside to check on a noise, which may have been the sound of fireworks. Some were heard while the officers were at the scene.
The man was taken into custody after it was learned he was a convicted felon who is not permitted to possess firearms.
